5 Minute Core Routine for Runners

Since having a strong core is fundamental to not only our athleticism, but also to our health and longevity, everyone should be doing some core work at least a couple times a week. If you’re like me, you’d like to be able to do something quick at home, like this 5 minute routine..


I’ve been doing some variation of this every day for years, and it’s been a lifesaver for my back.


I start off with a little bit of mobilization, which loosens me up and acts as a quick warmup, then go through the following 5 exercises:


  1. 20 reverse crunches

  2. 20 back extensions

  3. 20 bicycle crunches

  4. 20 windshield wipers

  5. 15 reverse wood chops on each side
